Summary

As an Of Counsel in the Firm’s oil & gas and real estate sections, David Childress practices in the area of oil and gas, concentrating on upstream and midstream oil and gas projects. His oil and gas practice includes the purchase and sale of oil and gas properties, CO2 properties, and related assets such as pipelines, processing plants, and related contracts. Mr. Childress has extensive experience in title due diligence (including title examination) and the preparation of oil and gas documents, including title documents, oil and gas exploration and development agreements, operating agreements, pooling agreements, production sharing and farmout agreements. Mr. Childress works with creditors and borrowers in oil and gas financing transactions, and his practice includes extensive representation of mineral owners in the negotiation and preparation of oil and gas leases and related documents.


Mr. Childress’ practice also includes real estate, concentrating on representing buyers and sellers of real property, including extensive experience in negotiation and preparation of surface waiver documents in connection with the surface development of real estate, and in representing sellers and buyers in rural real estate transactions. He also represents landowners in the negotiation and preparation of wind, solar, grazing and hunting leases.


Mr. Childress began his legal career practicing for 27 years at Lynch, Chappell Allday & Alsup in Midland, Texas. In 1999, David was named a partner in Mayor Day Caldwell & Keeton LLP located in Houston, Texas, and later as a partner at Andrews & Kurth in Houston (now known as Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP). Since 2020, Mr. Childress has practiced in an Of Counsel capacity at Shannon, Martin, Finkelstein, Alvarado & Dunne, P.C.


Mr. Childress has been married to wife, Kathy, for 48 years. Together, they have three grown children and two grandchildren, and he enjoys family, golf, fishing, and all Longhorn sports.
